Suriname president proposes 'visa-free travel' between India and Suriname

Suriname, a little yet beautiful country in South America, is prepared to remove visa permits and promote ‘visa-free travel’ between India and Suriname. On January 8, President Chandrikapersad Santokhi said that their country is prepared to require the primary step to strengthen the bilateral bonds between the 2 nations.


The President was speaking at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention organized by India on January 9. He said, “Suriname is ready to require the primary step in doing so by ending visa permits for visitors from India to Suriname.”


Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention is organized per annum by India to commemorate the day Gandhi arrived in India. This year, the event was held virtually and on the occasion, Suriname’s Indian origin leader spoke at the external affairs ministry’s flagship event in Bhojpuri dialect.

The president further said that the country diaspora may be a crucial part of "> a part of India’s soft power which India too is an integral part of Suriname’s soft power. He said allowing free movement between the 2 countries will bring prosperity and increase various sectors including education and science.


“The importance of the Indian diaspora can and must be one among the mutual benefits. If we approach the opportunities in this way, we will achieve great things for our countries. during this interconnected world we all sleep in, we value international relationships supported respect and mutual benefits.”
