Kempty Falls

India > Uttarakhand > Dehradun

Kempty Falls is a beautiful waterfall that falls on the ground from a height of 40 feet, located on the road between Dehradun-Mussoorie road. Surrounded by high mountain cliffs, Kempty Falls is situated at an altitude of about 4500 feet above sea level. Due to its picturesque surroundings and natural beauty, this place was developed by John McKinnon as a picnic spot. One of the most famous waterfalls in Uttarakhand, Kempty Falls offers a panoramic view with water falling from the mountains. The name Kempty Falls is derived from the words "camp and tea", meaning that the elaborate tea parties that were once held here in the evening eventually lead to a local name, Kempty. Kempty Falls offers a wonderful view of the stream flowing down from a great height. The pond at the bottom of the waterfall is a good place for swimming and bathing. A flight of stairs leads to the pond where one can have fun with friends and family. Famous as a picnic spot among tourists, this perennial waterfall is crowded almost throughout the year.
